open water access at Guttenberg?
« on: Mar 17, 2014, 11:06 AM »
Anybody know if there is a ramp open below the dam at Guttenberg that a person could launch a boat from right now?  I'd like to get on the water this weekend if possible and do a bit of jigging for 'eyes.
take care,
Dave  :>)

Be careful if you can get out on the water--there is going to be a lot of ice coming down this weekend.

Do you know if there is a bait shop in the area. Man that would be the best bet. I think they would know day to day what is going on in the river. I know this don't help you but, down here there is a lot of ice flowing down the river. Good luck and be safe!!

Yes,  I have found info for a local  bait shop.  I'll be giving them a call before driving two hours just to turn back around.   I am hoping I am far enough North of your location to avoid the ice but maybe not.  My local river is running pretty clear right now but it doesn't carry the same drainage as the Mississippi of course.

Hey, let us know when you find it's open. Looking forward to catching some Walleyes/Saugers also. If I hear anything, I'll let you know. My wife drove over there Saturday and the DNR ramp was still locked up in ice.

I did that once on a pond. Used a plank. Then fished all day in the March sun and then when it came time to leave I was mid-thigh in icy water. The plank had shortened.  ;) I told myself, "never again".
