Anyone fishing Green Lake in Athens lately? Was wondering how its been. I've heard in the past that its a bit slow but that was some time ago. ATVs allowed on it? Hope everyone is having a great season.

Johnnnyo welcome to the website, I'm located south of Green county by Newburgh (Orange County) . Do a search for the phone number of a bait and tackle shop in Catskill called River Basin they may have information on the lake. I hope the shop is still in business it has been a few years since I've visited Green county. I have friends who live on Sleepy Hollow lake.

Thanks. They are open and I will be stopping in there tomorrow for bait. I will speak with owner. Was hoping someone has been on the lake recently. I know they used to stock it with trout every year. not sure if they still do.

There is trout . But hard to find in the winter.

RBS is out of bait. Went up there Sat. to get my striper gear. Stopped at Green for an hour to jig. Got a bluegill and a pumpkinseed

There use to be another bait shop up the road in cario mabey. If he is still open . It's in some body's garage. Last year a guy came to greens with a trailer selling bait out of it . Seen em in winter and summer . Not sure of the name's.

There's a bait shop called mj's in Hudson by the ups . About 15 min away . Across the river

It's been slow on Green Lake. My Buddy Eric got a few trout in 2 trips and guys are catching some Pickerel near the weed beds.

Doesn't River Basin in Catskill have minnows?

I live in Coxsackie and fished Green a couple times this winter. Caught 1 trout jigging and 1 on a slip bobber and shiner. Missed one on a tipup too. Marked quite a few. There's good trout in there but they aren't easy to catch. I go by the motto "You don't go to Green Lake if you're hungry." lol The closest bait shop is the one in Hudson. They don't have much but they'll have shiners...Good luck.

MJs is a garage behind a house. Very small. There's a hardware/outdoors supply store there. Can't remember the name right now, but you need to pull up into that parking lot to find it....

That sucks! This is the worst possible area to by bait. River Basin is only open half the time and not open at all in the winter. Closest place for me to dependably by a minnow is Hudson River Bait and Tackle in Rensselear!
