Bullheads through the ice
« on: Mar 07, 2014, 07:53 PM »
Fishing a local Indian River lake this evening I caught a bullhead and lost two more at the hole. I've caught them through the ice before and they are delicious from the cold water. (I caught 7 one evening a few years back) I was actually looking for crappies and fishing with a lantern after dark. I did manage to catch one nice crappie and a few bluegills as well. Thinking of setting some tipups and seeing if I can catch enough for a meal some evening soon. The ones I've caught hit jigs with spikes but  I wonder if you could target them with worms or other bait on a tipup. Anyone ever tied?

Canned corn right on the bottom if they are there you'll run all night

I used to cut up bluegill into little chunks and set them on the bottom on tip ups with no weight.  Check on the tip ups often as they sometimes just sit there.
