Thanks...I think the 40mph winds and heavy rain predicted could pile the ice up all over :(

I have a feeling some dummy is going to lose a snowmobile in the next week or so.  And no...I am not going down there for awhile so don't say it'll be me lol.

Oh I see.  You were directing this at me!

I still believe I can skip a snowmobile across on Saturday.  Even with the heavy rain coming the next two days.

I'm not sure where you wanted to fish, but I don't think it will be a problem getting on the ice Friday.  I fished yesterday and walked out a few feet in my waders and then climbed on good ice.  No problems.

I'll be fishing Friday and Saturday unless we get a lot of rain in the next couple days.

Guys, guys.... be careful out there.  The ice and upcoming weather simply don't look that positive.  Just a thought, but there isn't one single fish out there worth someone going through the ice.  If you guys choose to go out on that ice, please remember to take along some ice pics and some lengths of rope......just in case you get into a jam.

Remember, there's always next year.   frmr   ;)

You're right...a fish isn't worth dying for that's for sure.  But the ice on the main part of the lake was still very good as of last night.  We didn't get much rain today but it is supposed to rain tonight and some tomorrow.  I hope to get out fishing tomorrow and can let you know if anything changes.

Great pictures! Thanks for the visual update.  It's amazing how fast the ice goes out here.  I'm heading back to the midwest to chase the ice in a couple weeks.  It anyone else tries it out there keep us posted!

Do most of the augers now days have the same gear ratio? Or can you get them at different ratios?

Used my waders this evening and made it out just fine.  Ice is still 12"+.  A little more slush on top but not bad at all.

I can't imagine it's any worse but I did not actually go over and check it out.  I didn't see anyone fishing it tonight but then again, we had people stop and take our pictures because we were ice fishing :)

Here's some info on Eskimo augers at this link.   Note the engines all turn at 9000 rpm. The ratios are such that the smaller cc engines turn the cutter much slower than the two large engines.

Some of the happiest owners have the Stingray, saving a few pounds.

Gotcha....how was the bite?

I was fishing trout.  My son and I fished for about an hour.  It was pretty slow.  We caught 1 and lost 2 (one of them straightened out the hook of the Hali jig I was using...it was either a big fish or a weak hook).  The water was really dirty from the shoreline work being done so I'm wondering if that played a part.  If I had more than an hour, we would have moved.  Plus, I've been using the same holes for 2 weeks and I didn't bring my auger.  They had been dynamite until the water was dirtied up.

Yup, state record was broke twice in 2 weeks (and previous was broke again but not the new record), previous record was from the same body of water.
