Mid Season advice
« on: Feb 08, 2014, 08:58 AM »
Curious if you guys try any different techniques or locations during mid winter. Reading up on research tells me pike go deeper thenwhere they can be found then their early ice haunts, then returning back to those areas late ice to feed hard before spawning. My tipup and spearing success has declined lately.

I moved to 16 fow last week saw lots of fish hanging tight to bottom. Last ice i move shallower ready to catch the spawners big females.
Rippin lips one at a time.

I recently went to a friends darkhouse in 13 FOW. Saw over ten pike, speared a 26" eater. The majority of fish I saw were TIGHT to the bottom. Going out in the a.m. setting up off a major weed bed on the drop in 12 FOW. Hopefully I can connect some steel to scales.  They should be moving back into the shallows SOON. It's about that time!! :)
