Drill Unit on Strikemaster Auger
« on: Feb 06, 2014, 08:55 AM »
Guys,
seems lately if it is not one thing it is the other with this unit. I have a Strikemaster LazerMag Xpress. Replaced the blades and now I have discovered that the drill portion is coming loose from the powerhead after a few holes.
I drilled 8 holes through 14 inches of ice. Got home and discovered the drill was loose. I just tightened the drill, drilled 8 holes and whamo!!! Loose again! Any suggestions what the issue may be. Was thinking of just lock titing the the drill bolt but was hoping for a permanent solution.

If you want it permanent, you can weld the bolt in. But then you'll never be able to get the auger off if something happens and you need a new drill unit. I suggest red 271 loctite if you really do not have any plans to take it off. At least with the 271 loctite you can heat it up and break it loose if you need to down the road.

Just get a longer bolt and put a nylock nut on the exposed threads. FYI if needed nylock nut is a nut with nylon encapsulated in the nut to resist turning. I've done works great, and you don't need heat to get it apart.
