Best lures of the year!
« on: Jan 28, 2014, 05:43 PM »
Now that it is well into the season what have been the best lures for each species so far this year.
For me it has been small buck shot rattles but the sleepers are puppet minows and tear drop lures  and mostly fishing walleye perch and crappies.

By far the Rippin Rap has impressed me the most this year.  Have caught at least 3/4 of my fish with these this winter.  Lots of noise, action and they drop three times as fast as a chubby or lindy darter.  Great for calling in fish and keep a baited spoon on the ready in the vex's rod holder in case fish come in but won't hit it.  Often I keep that spoon baited the whole trip as it is not needed to catch fish.

Orange UV Buckshot. Caught Walleye, Northern, Rainbow and Brown Trout on the same one. A little beat up but still pulling them in.

I find myself starting out with the ol green and gold slender spoon, then buckshots. been trying to give the darters more time this ice season and have had some luck.

Slender spoons are my go to bait! I had a lot of luck on the black nickel with purple this year. For some reasons the fish around here liked it. Tipped with waxies caught anything from bass to bluegill to walleye to crappie. Caught a 21.5" bass on it this year!
