Eskimo Z51 opinions?
« on: Jan 22, 2014, 07:49 PM »
Wondering if anyone on here owns a Eskimo Z51? If so, how do you like it compared to other augers you have used/owned?

I am in the market for a cheaper 2 stroke, and the Eskimo Z51 has caught my eye. I was looking at the SM Lazer Pro, but a little to pricey for me.

So, back to the Z51. Any thoughts?

Have had a z51 10" for 3 years now. I had a small leak through the fuel line coming out of the tank.  Fixed it easily with JB weld.  Starts easily, drills great.  This is my 2nd z51 Shark.  If only we could convince them to start manufacturing the 9" again !

I found one on craigslist for $380 used twice. Is that too steep? Gander and some other places say $350 and cabela's say $499.

I'm thinking so, I have not done much price comparison for power augers, but the wife gave me an ok. So now I'm shopping.

If I had all the money in the world I would probably get the z51 than any of the others. Just need something faster than what I have now, Armstrong Auger. Thanks Rebs.

I bought mine 2 years ago from the eskimo outlet store brand new for 259 dollars. It was a bad ice year and i think they may have needed to move them plus it had the older style plastic handles.

It is a great auger and cuts like the ice like crazy. At the beginning of the year I actually was going to sell it and go to the clam drill auger deal. After drilling 30 holes through 30 plus inches of ice yesterday I am so glad that I didn't do that.

My Z51 also has the Plastic handles. Not a problem when you set it down easy and don't let it flop around in your truck.

Thats the key.  Mine has the plastic handles as well.  No issues so far.

i have a 51 8 inch and it absolutly ripped through the ice for two weeks then one day i took it out and it danced around the top of the holes and wouldn't cut for #$%%  i got frustrated and pushed on it so it would drill  so i could fish ( yes i cleared all the ice off)  the next day i brought it in and removed the blades to see if i could find a problem, low and behold the first blade came off and was snapped in two in the middle of the outer mounting hole i could not tell it when it cleaned the ice off it was a hair line fracture but the blade was still mounted so not sure if the break came before or after the abuse of me trying to drill  ::) new blades on the way so ill let you know. cant figure out why it broke its only drilled maybe 50 holes and im pretty careful of transporting it and always put the cover on , i may have hit something i guess  or maybe i over tightend the screws?   it runs like a champ and screamed through ice, been really cold out ?  For now im blaming the china blades and hope the replacements are better quality :-\

Drew, let me give you one tip, and I'll leave it at that, not even going to get into it. NEVER, EVER,
push down on your auger when drilling!!!!!!! HUGE mistake. I'll leave it at that. Good luck.   ;)

Right there is a good reason to carry spares.   I have 3 sets because our ice is usually full of nasty sand.

$15 is a still. Must have been one of those people that sell a little of everything and nothing in particular.

I got a z51 8" this year and it has aluminum handles.  So far I love it and it does good.  Drilled through 32" today!
