I have an 8" ION auger. Works great, drilled 40+ holes in 10" of ice last week and still had plenty of charge left..no gas,no fumes, starts every time and is 21 lbs...

Thanks.
Wow 40 holes and still has a charge left.
When not in use where do you store the battery?

When I'm on the ice after the holes are drilled-I put the battery in a hand warmer pouch and try to keep it from getting too cold. That is the only problem I've heard about the ION battery..Doesn't like the cold..

It seems nice and light.
The replacement blades look just
like the Mora's, any truth to it?

No they are not. They are similar but not the same. The ION blades are sharpened on both sides.  A really strange circular pattern on the bottom face.
But they work so don't mess with success. Their only problem is they are 3 points (on the Rockwell C scale) softer, than the typical Lazer
(Made in Sweden) blades which means dull comes quicker. Could be the metallurgical quality won't allow a better heat-treatment.

i just leave mine on it too, 1 year and counting with 0 problems, matter of fact, i almost never charge between sat./sun and always have plenty of juice left after 2 days of fishing! on second thought though, i do charge it periodically throughout the offseason to make sure it is stored on maximum charge(recommended basically for all batteries)

snaggletooth, you are welcome to stick with your heavy, smelly auger, but many anglers like a light, quiet and easy to start auger... My fishing buggy has one and it is great!

I machined an adapter to mount my Nils to the Ion head. Cuts really well.

I'd switch to the electric or propane but my gas auger is  for all practical purposes brand new.    I just can't see dropping another few hundred on another auger.   I'm all for reducing environmental impact.

I will switch to electric when my gas auger craps out, at the rate it is going, my sons will be able to use it.   ;D

I got the Ion when it came out last year.

As mentioned, keep the battery warm. This is actually in the manual as well.

If you dont need an 8in auger you can put the extension that comes with it on, and just about any telescoping hand auger will fit that.

I got 80 holes thru 13in of ice with my 6in Mora auger on it. Still had 2/3 battery left..

I got 65 holes thru the same 13in of ice with the 8in auger, with 2/3 battery left.

Keep the battery warm, and remember you dont have to apply any downward pressure on it. Just pull the trigger and hold on =)

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.
