I think we all agree cooking on the ice is awesome, but if you're talking about single-day trips, just buy a decent thermos. It will keep coffee super hot and fresh for the entire day with less bulk, less propane, and less time.

Coffee pots? Just get a stove boil water and use a coffee press. Or get instant coffee.

I've got a Thermous brand thermous that's great ... It is some kind of ultra tough plastic on the out side with a SS sleeve...I use it all summer striper fishing as well...in the winter it will keep coffee hot for about 8 hours @20 F

to actually make coffee... i bring an old school percualator.... put it on the stove and let it boil until you can float a brick in it.. best coffee EVER....the smell will make you many friends... for clean up, I throw the basket in a big zip lock freezer bag.. toss it in my sled and deal with it when I get home...

A little propane burner and an old fashioned perc pot would be perfect. I like the way it comes out… usually super strong. Camp coffee is good too. just bring water to a boil, let it cool a bit, toss in the grind and pour it through a filter into cups. If the water's the right temp this can be REALLY good.
I likes me some coffee.

The single burner Coleman and a good perc is great. 2 1/2 scoops for no more than 2 1/2 min. At perc is great. As soon as you see it bubble turn to low. I use a paper filter in mine. Just cut an x in a 4 cup paper filter and put in the basket. It's the best you can get. Try it at home first u will love it.

I have a big 30 cup camping Percolator that I swear by.....makes a great cup of joe. But If its just me going out I use a Stanley Thermos....keeps my coffee hot all day, and as mentioned earlier....cuts down on the load of gear to carry out

Instant coffee gets a bad wrap for some reason. but really if you arent some kind of coffee connoisseur it should be fine. I mean we are all really only drinking it for the coffee and heat anyways right?

for christmas wife got me 24 hr thermos brand thermos
wow that thing is amazing
i filled it with boiling water, used/checked it every 6 hrs, at 18 hr point, it was still steaming hot where you had to let it cool to make it drinkable, at 24 hr point which included some time in the car overnight in -15 temps the water was still steaming and drinkable,
prefer to fill it with water with gives me the option of coffee, broth, hot chocolate

We used to use the coffee dunking bags, like a tea bag but coffee. Then I bought a Coleman drip maker like the ones on your counter at home. But I wouldn't bring it ice fishing unless it was a big gathering etc. I agree with a good thermos. Mine is damaged and have to replace it.

I did use this, made great coffee and the smell was awesome. The whole set up was heavy and bulky.

Now a thermos of coffee and a Stanley pot. Light, quick and easy.

Best coffee I've ever had was an old aluminum stovetop percolator on a gas stove or coleman, on the ice.

If you really like your coffee.. that's the way to do it... and black.

No idea how old the percolator is or who makes it.  came from the dump down in Mashpee in the 50s I'll bet.  (They are probably out of them ;-)

I'm something of a coffee snob - Thermos or If I have the time, I'll french press - otherwise it's boil + instant for the win, scoop to your desired strength.  I prefer Irish tea over instant coffee tho, goes better with the flask offerings...YMMV

Either way, it's about the enjoyment - enjoy!
