Lonepine
« on: Jan 07, 2014, 10:39 AM »
Hey guys, wondering if anyone has been out to Lonepine. We used to go there and catch ginormous perch years ago and haven't seen a post on here about it. I've heard different rumors in the past couple years about he perch are no longer but just wanted to ask someone who actually knows.  Thanks

It got 100% drained this summer. Somewhere on here is a thread about it.

I have heard that and if my memory serves me right, they have drained it before also. Anyone know why they keep draining it?

Yes, they drain it to fix the dam. It is not managed as a fishery it is an irrigation reservoir and that is has fish in it is purely a by product of the river/stream system that feeds it.

I heard it was only the lower lake at lone pine that got drained. Which makes sense because when I went up there two weeks ago they had a bright like mega blinding spot light shining onto the lower lake which look like for repairs.

How is fishing good if it was drained?

Only the lower lake was drained. The upper lake wasn't. I fished the upper in early December and did decent for Pike.

I've never fished the upper, just heard others talk about it. I might have to go hit it up then after I re-up my license when I get back from working over here in Washington.

Fished the upper today with the GF's son. Non-stop hammer handles under the rez size limit to keep. The kid had fun but if that is mainly what is in there I'll probably pass on fishing it again for a while. It was -9 on the ice, ice was solid and 10" with an annoying amount of snow on top that made dragging the sled with a popup on it quite the challenge. We had a riot though trying to stay ahead of the hammer handles stealing our bait. It was a good day. The road in was good for truck but a car would have had significant problems unless maybe you chained it up.
