Beaver Lake, SD
« on: Dec 05, 2005, 09:21 AM »
Anybody been to Beaver Lake yet?  I have never fished it, but plan on possibly doing so this coming weekend?  Anybody have any driving directions or pointers on where to fish, or ice conditions?

Thanks!

-WF.

Last winter I fished Beaver a couple of times. Seemed like everybody fished just north of the boat ramp and only 10-20 yards from the shore. Mostly caught small walleyes. I did catch one at 19 inches. You can only keep 1 walleye there and it has to be longer than 24 inches.

Thanks Berke!!

I think we'd be moreless catching for fun, unless we were able to locate some crappie to tie into, we'd bring a meal home.  I read that it is a relatively shallow lake all round on the GFP specs for it.  I presume only access or best access would be the boat ramp?

Thanks again,
WF.

The boat ramp on the south west corner is the only lake access there is that I know of. If we get a lot of snow and wind it usually drifts in pretty bad though.

I found that it is in Yankton County, however I can't seem to find driving directions anywhere on the Web!  Guess I'll have to keep hunting to figure it out!

The only Beaver Lake I know of is right outside of Humbolt, Minnehaha Co.  Is that what you are looking for or is there another Beaver Lake somewhere else that you know of?

Ur thinking of The Beaver Lake Near Humboldt, the one near yankton isnt much but a beaver pond anymore, one year the dam broke and the beavers are the only ones that rebuilt, as for the beaver lake by humboldt it is 1 walleye over 24 there is some good walleyes in it! lots of small bullheads and small crappies as well! ;D

Yep - just talked to my brother about it... near Humboldt somewhere off the Interstate... I have a problem though - if I want to go, I have to go by a few spare rods as I only have two new reels here @ home, I'd need line, a few jigs, and a couple new tipups.  All my gear minus my auger, shanty, vex, and cam is up at the cabin!!!! YIKES!

Maybe it'll be best to just stay home and get homework done!  Go next weekend wherever... I just feel like I'll be missing out on the action!!!  >:(

I wasn't able to get out this weekend due to a few unexpected ordeals... Anyways... this warm weather will likely have an effect on the area lakes in the SE area... It is supposed to start getting cold again on Wed. I believe, so hopefully that'll help out.  I'll be headed to Waubay this weekend for the first outing of the year.  I CANNOT wait ;).

Well after the drained it and rebuilt the dam it didn't get much deeper since the dam wasn't built tall enough, although if I did read right it was restocked after all that mess....
