2.5 solo monster to start.
« on: Dec 07, 2013, 09:29 PM »
I have a 2.5 and is a monster to start at first .i prime it anywhere from 3 to five times and takes about 15 to 20 pulls to start.won't blurp at all to start then all of a sudden it fires and runs fine.you can leave it for 2 hours and will start quicker if I hold the throttle down for a few pulls at full choke .even after the summer I had to pour a little fuel down the cylinder to start it.any ideas what to try.

Sounds exactly like you are over-priming it, ie; flooding it. Try 2-3 primes at full choke, see if that works.

Can't over prime that system. By priming it you just make sure that fuel is to the carb and ready to flow on the first puel, it's does not directly prime fuel into the engine, after the system is full it just recirculates the fuel back to the tank. Sounds like other fuel issues to me just can't put a finger on it. Maybe a restriction not allowing air/ vacuum to move the diaphragm, thus not moving fuel through the carb.

As the temps dropped it got worse to start .warmer day 6 pulls cold day 20. Gonna try a carb kit maybe and see what that does.whats the best way to start these solos in very cold weather.

Sounds like you need that carb kit to me.  Don't forget to clean/regap or get a new plug.

Has it always been difficult to start?  Sounds like she's just set too lean on the "L" screw.  Turn it out a bit.  Maybe 1/4 - 1/2 turn.  Either that or raise the metering lever just a touch.
