100% in agreement. Put the gaffs away and get a pair of those jaws. Let those big girls back into the water without bleeding all over. Been using them  for years but still prefer a well placed hand with a good glove over it.

Will the BIG girls still be in the ditches 2nd week of June, or will they have moved out by then?

We're planning on fishing the flats after the derby on Saturday.  I am assuming the ice will still be good to drive on at that time?

Anyone else heading to the Flats on Saturday? What time do most head out? I assume the ice road should be pretty drivable. Are most guys just fishing off the side of the plowed road?

When we went up a couple weeks ago we fished just on the other side of the ridge left from plowing the road.  Can't wait to get out there after the derby.  The young guy coming with my son and myself has never fished up there before.  I'll probably be the only woman with two teenage boys out there.  Early morning wake up for the boys since it's a 3 hr drive for us

Any derby results?

Anyone have a good day on the flats? Will be heading out bright and early in hopes of a big girl to end the season.

Anyone have an idea when the ice will be out this year? With the river running through to the big lake, does the ice ALWAYS come off before May long weekend?

It all depends on the weather we get in April and early May. If we get lots of sun and wind along with warm temps over the next month it will hopefully be gone by May long.

I know one thing for sure and that is there was about 10-12 inches of snow on top of the ice the last week of March yet, along with well over 40 inches of ice underneath that foot of snow. It hadn't done any rotting or melting yet as of the last few days of the season. Long way to go until open water but it all depends on the weather we get over the next month or so.
