I've been working with the Tioga County Visitor's Bureau a lot this year to help publicize our local fishing opportunities.  Check out this video we just finished up on ice fishing in Tioga County!  Thank you to all my customers that send in pictures last ice season too!

**We are generally closed Tuesdays, but many times i'm here working anyway.  Please call ahead to see if we're open!**  If you need assistance at any other time, please call ahead and I'll do my best to help you



A heads up too...we will be updating conditions again as soon as skim ice starts forming.  We've seem some on Cowanesque, Nessmuk, and the local farm ponds, but nothing near sustainable yet.  As we get closer to 'safe ice' please be careful out there and bring the proper safety gear.  No ice is truly safe and we'll do our best to keep you updated on Tioga County ice conditions, but there is no substitute for checking conditions yourself before venturing out.

I sure hope the snow thats coming isn t to deep, these cold nights will add up quickly in inches if the lakes are not covered. It would be nice for a change to get on the ice early or at least before mid January

You're welcome and Thanks!  I've been having a lot of fun doing stuff with the visitor's bureau. 


Light snow coming down now with a bunch of slop from last night.  1-2 inches of snow/slush junk here at the shop.  Looks like this will refreeze and put a few inches of ugly ice on top, but temps in the teens at night the rest of the week oughtta help build some good ice.  It's not supposed to get out of the 20's the rest of the week after today with lows in the single digits on Friday!!!!!  No building weather next week, but it'll hold this ice together at least.

We carry Fatheads, medium shiners, large shiners, suckers, waxworms, mealworms, spikes, oak leaf grubs, moussees, and a ton of artificial baits! **We may/may not have butterworms.  i'm working on getting some for winter, but they are not in stock yet.

13 Fishing is HERE at Tackle Shack!!!  We've got almsot 50 rods/combos from them plus a full line of their reels!!  This stuff is some of the most innovative in the industry.  Stop in and check it out!  You'll be impressed.

Lots of questions about live bait this week.  We carry the best bait around.  Always lively and always fresh!!  We have a good supply of everything but spikes in right now.  Tomorrow 12,000 spikes ship out to me.  I should have them Wednesday.  Another 5000 waxies will be here Wednesday too.

Bait we stock...

Nightcrawlers, baby nightcrawlers, redworms, mealworms, waxworms, MOUSIES!!, spikes (both pink and white), oak leaf grubs, and HOPEFULLY butterworms, pending a decent supplier.  We carry butterworms all summer, but typically I don't stock many in the winter because of supplier issues.  I think I've straightened that out for this winter though.  We'll let ya know for sure

Minnows- Fatheads, medium shiners, large shiners, suckers.  Suckers vary from shipment to shipment.  I'm trying to get big ones but the ones in here right now are about 3-7 inches.  I'm hoping this next batch will have good 6-8+ inchers.  We'll see though.  Unfortunately, I'm at the mercy of the suppliers for big minnows  .


Remember last year's shortage on waxies??  Don't get caught without live bait!! We have been able to avoid bottlenecks in the supply by buying directly from the growers, however we highly recommend stocking up early or preordering from us so we can be ready to help you.  We were able to stay supplied with waxies for all but about 2 days last year when other shops around the state were out for weeks.  Pre ordering and letting us know when you need bulk bait helps us tremendously!!

Id like to take the time to let you guys know how much we appreciate your diligent work, updating these conditions and making the info so easy to access. We are lucky to have you locally here in tioga county keeping everyone safe on the ice. Maybe the moderators of ice shanty should take notice. I frown upon their posting requirements to access ice conditions. I understand encouraging involvement on threads but to me these conditions are a matter of safety.

I have to assume there are many readers like myself who would rather spend their short time away from the everyday grind fishing and not posting to a board. Therefore I enjoy being able to read your threads quickly to plan my days fishing.

If you want information on ice conditions on the reports boards, then making a minimum of 3 posts is miniscule. If that's too much to ask, then so be it.

Lots of calls about Ice fishing this weekend!  I'll be checking conditions this afternoon, but Hills is definitely good to go!!

I just got a nice lot of 5000 FRESH waxies in stock Unlike our competitors and the local gas station machines, our bait is shipped weekly straight from the growers. Fresh, lively, and always at great prices! These tubs of 250 waxies are just $8.99 through 12/18!!  We have a big lot of fatheads, medium shiners, large shiners, suckers, spikes, and more coming in today too.  We have plenty of oak leaf grubs in stock as well!!

Conditions have been updated.   If you are planning a trip to the area, Hills Creek is the only lake that is good right now with mostly 4.5-5.5 inches with some spots thicker and some spots thinner.

We are open 6 AM - 6 PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Stop in, get your bait, hit up the SALES, and get on some hardwater this weekend

Glad to help.  Sorry we had to limit the amount of waxies, but I  we're getting well stocked for next weekend.  Fortunately, I had enough for almost everyone that asked for some this weekend atleast .  Atleast 10,000 more coming in either tomorrow or Wednesday.  I'll be running some mroe sales, so keep your eye out!  Glad the jigs worked for ya!

Beautiful morning here at Tackle Shack. It's gonna be a great day for ice fishing!  We've already had a bunch of Shanty members headed out to Hills Creek this morning.  Good luck and Be safe out there!

We will be OPEN tomorrow (Tuesday) and New Years Day. I am checking ice conditions tomorrow morning around 9 AM. I expect to be back in the shop before noon and we will be open 12-6. Normal hours Wednesday (New Years Day) 8 AM- 6 PM.

I'm going to do my best to stay open 7 days a week for 2014, but there will be days with the occasional 'Be back in 10 minutes' sign on the door and varying hours on Tuesdays so I can check ice conditions.

We will be OPEN New Year's Day 8AM-6PM.  I just updated conditions for the region on the reports pages.  Hills Creek still has the best ice, but Hamilton is shaping up nicely too.  A few good COLD days and no snow and we'll be on most everything by the weekend!

Well, between the holiday and shipping running behind anyway, my wax worms are tied up in the mail somewhere between here and Indiana.  I expect to have more waxworms in late tomorrow whenever USPS gets here.  If not, they'll be here Monday afternoon.  We have a couple thousand waxies left, but also plenty of spikes, mousees, and all your minnows.  I'm going to try to get another couple thousand waxies off a local wholesaler tomorrow morning too.

Just got off the phone with Jamie from Your Bobber's Down.  They're putting together our order of fiskas, micro nuggies, nuggies, and wedgies!!  We have over 20 colors of fiskas coming in.  mostly 3,4,5 mm.  some 2.5 and 6mm too though!  10 colors of wedgies and nuggies, and 15 colors of micro nuggies. 

We've got the gear you need!
