Was at little arm today and the ice was probably two inches or less with a lot of open water past pelican point. Supposed to be cold over the weekend so fingers are crossed.

Just got back in from Kinookamaw. Hope I spelled that right.

6" of ice for a long way out.

If you call the bay there Little Arm, there were a few guys out fishing.

Still, maybe we weren't far enuff out, not even a fish on my Buddies flasher. So we got skunked but was still good to be out there for an hour or so.
I can see where I have to get a bit conditioned yet. Poor little toes got cold, the rest of me was toasty. I can see a new pair of kamiks and electric socks in my future.

Had a good first day to the season and caught a new personal best pike at 38 inches.   She just about spooled me twice.  I am pretty sure that I am the first person to fish WeeToo at 3 to 4 inches and mostly closer to 4.

Nice one JH. What test line are you using?

I like Jacksons just fine. When they don't have any bones in them, they taste as good as any fish.

I use 20lb spiderwire to a swivel and a 12lb florcarbon leader.  I put at least 75y on my reels.

Some of the bays have a couple inches of ice in the shallows, the main lake and any deeper water is still way too sketchy. Going to be a late start this year unless a guy goes up to big arm.

How is the ice in wee too?
The ice angler is a different breed of fisherman. Undeterred by distance, daylight or degrees, these warriors go to extreme measures to chase down the fish attempting to wait out winter below the frozen surface. Through 10-inch holes positioned amidst miles of ice they engage the elusive walleye one-by-one, yeah it's crazy, and some may never understand it.

Which general part of the lake ie regina beach, pelican point, Rowan's....where should I stay away from?  Have not fished much and want to be sure that there is some decent access so I can pull a toboggan out with equip on Friday and that the ice is adequate....don't want to be falling through thin ice by an underground current.

I generally don't go off other peoples ice reports. Good Ice for some is not nessesarily good ice for me. Best is to go check, chip and drill.  Make sure you are comfortable with what you are standing on.

Especially this early in the season.  That essentially was why I was looking for where others were actively on the ice  fishing to reduce risk.

Thanks
