Here is my version of the Smitty Sled -

The roof racks remove from the skis via wing nuts.
I switch to 6 foot skis , to pull my Yukon.
No side to side movement.  No front to back movement b/c of the straps.
All straps are adjusted via cam buckle for ease of use.

Thanks Smitty !

Modified sled with push bar from old lawn mower,  great for downhill to the lake or running on slick surface, still use pull rope though.

Great looking sleds so far!

Just got another set of skis this last weekend, need to make another SS for the Kenai (aka, "Pulls-Like-A-Brick"), the bro in law stole my old one for his pop-up!   :o

Oh my I dig the lawn mower handle for pushing!  I wonder if the wife will miss the handle from the mower over the winter?  I better just go and find one!

I picked up the mower handle bar for my sled from a small engine repair shop for $10. any small engine shop that repairs mowers should have old parts.

Just wondering if hockeyboy has tried his rig out yet?  Looks like he's ready to go!  My first one was very unstable at that height and ending up in pieces after the first hill.  I've noticed that height clearance isn't as important as stability.  Just trying to give you a heads up. @)

I made this to help out with my Clam Nanook when the glare ice is gone.  I also put runners on the Nanook this summer.  I decided to make it when I saw some free skis at the transfer station one weekend.

1 - 8' 1" aluminum square tubing
4 - free azek deck samples 6" from lumber yard
12 - 5" GRK 5/16" screws
4 - square plastic end caps
4 - 3 1/2"  5/16" stainless steel bolts, lock washers, nuts
4 - 1/4" stainless eyebolts
6 feet of non skid 1" tape

I notched out the azek so the tubing fit snug, then drilled a hole in the center.  I cut the heads off the stainless bolts and rounded them off with a grinder and bolted them to the square tubing.  It was a bit tricky getting the lock nuts on but a wire hanger helped a bunch.  Very light and will hopefully save me cardiac event on the ice this winter.  The Nanook makes a better anchor than anything else when the snow is deep.  I also replaced the bolts that hold my swivel seats in with clevis pins to lighten the load if necessary I can use lawn type chairs (much lighter).
A watched lake never freezes.

I am a little concerned about the height as well. Its all welded steel tubing so it will stay together but may be very tippy, I originally built this for my snowmobile and added the ski to it hope it works if not ill go back to old pull sled.

Here's my 1st attempt-the SX-1 (Smitty Experiment 1) It has a few bugs that need to be worked out but it should make hauling that flat bottom tub a bit easier.

Just got done with mine, I had a million ideas but decided to keep it simple and add in or modify later if I need to.

I had some stainless steel brackets I used to keep my suitcase style shelter in the sled so I don't have to solely rely on strapping it down. The cpvc pipe in the back is just there as an anchor point, I plan to use a Rubbermaid tub on top of the sled.

Here it is loaded with the shanty:

Thanks to Smitty for the ideas, and the suggestions on local places to find some skis. I still need to add the rope and eye bolts, but even then I should still be under $20.

I was just looking at Eskimo's website.  Google Eskimo Lake Runner.  Pretty cool.

Hey Smitty, I think someone was watching...  ;)

That includes the Flip mO 3 with it. I wonder what they are asking for just the sled?

Built my first smitty sled last night on a last minute thought and put it to use today. Works so much better with the skies. Pulled my gear and had my girlfriend ride in the back the hole time and could barely notice any difference.
