Polars Trip Shaft Chrome Flaking

I have 24 Polars with the 500FT metal spools (PTU-50's) that I bought last winter, and the chrome plating is flaking off from the trip shafts on many of them...  Not impressed.  It's probably safe to say that HT won't do anything for me at this point (still gonna contact them), so I was thinking of cleaning them up in the off season.  Anyone one have any ideas on what to do?  Have them re-chromed?  Maybe replace the shaft with a stainless one?  I wouldn't mind swaping them out for stainless, but don't know where I could acquire such an animal.

Same thing happened to me. I had post with pics the other year. I called them and they replaced them. Ht did,  not the company I bought from. They rusted real bad after the stuff flaked off. Basically very cheap stainless. I really like Polars. Older ones never did this.

IMO  having them re- chromed would be cost prohibited, might as well buy new ones.  Some decent paint should last for a few years.
