Two cents from a rookie....

Being new to the sport and this forum I would greatly appreciate a reports and conditions section.  I am always willing to share conditions but unsure where and how to post for most effective information distribution.  I would be willing to help set up the page as well.  My initial suggestion would be to format the section into regions modeled to the Anglers guide Idaho F&G has...

http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/fish/guides/anglerGuide.pdf

Using page 15 as an example.  It would create an easy way to split the state up into different regions and eliminate some of the repetitive questions on the different species in each body of water.

My initial suggestion would be to format the section into regions

Dividing by region, using the F&G regions, sounds like a good idea, but if you know the name of the body of water but aren't sure exactly which region the F&G puts it in, would that make for a less convenient search?

I'd like to see an ice and fishing report section as well. Im constantly going back to three or four threads to check on reports. One page with individual bodies of water would be awesome.

Fifteen threads on Lake Cascade... that should be enough evidence to prove the need. (I did not actually count the number of threads)  ;D

I just sent a PM to Hoosier to ask about this.  Maybe it needs to be an off-season thing when the mods aren't otherwise engaged.

I have responded to several guys about a R&C board. As I said to them I will say to everyone looking at this thread. I have talked to Scott about this already and the consensus is. It takes a lot to set this board up. If there is enough interest in this board, then it might be possible. First there needs to be enough evidence that one is warranted. So my suggestion is that everyone that wants it, put a few lakes up on the as a topic, then keep it currant with the proper post R&C boards should have. The more interest everyone shows in an R&C board the better chance it has.
                                                               Thanks JT

As I looked threw the majority of the "lake" posts. It is mostly guys askin conditions instead of people giving conditions. There have been some good reports and conditions left. It would be nice to see more guys letting everyone know how much snow, slush, tracks, entry points, and of course Ice thickness and as always this is all relative to personal opinion and the reader is always encouraged to check for themselves, but sometimes the opinion is all a guy needs to make a call to a buddy and hit the road.

Hoosier,
To start the process for next season, can we have a few of the more popular locations pinned at the top of the discussion board? Much like the recipes thread.
I think this will get folks used to the idea and also to see if reports and conditions will be the only information posted.
Cascade would be a definite. We would just need to decide the couple of other locations we would want pinned.

Thanks!  ;D :) :woot:

Quick and dumb question for clarity:  In that post you request that we reply to the thread you created indicating that we want a lake added:

...Check the pages to see if the lake is there.  If not, then post to this thread that you want a lake added.

...and you also show how to add the lake by creating a new thread:

...Check the pages to see if the lake is there.  If not, then post to this thread that you want a lake added.

Here is an example what they way Lakes should be posted

Thanks,    JT

(Image removed from quote.)

Are we supposed to reply to your post, or go ahead and create a new thread (=topic = lake)?

Just wanna make sure we do exactly what you are asking for.

look at the Wisconsin report & conditions thread as an example.

Thanks, HIMO.  Wisconsin has a place to ask for new lakes (pinned topic/thread "Adding Lakes") and lake threads created by multiple people.  We have no "Adding Lakes" thread/topic.  Based on that, if I understand you and Hoosier correctly-- If you want a lake added: 1) If you have the required info, go ahead and create a thread/topic for the lake, using the instructions shown.  2) If you don't have the required info, reply to the existing thread requesting a new lake.

It begins.  I'm off to gather data on some lakes.  hugeinchina, spud bar, fowl_language, time for us to make good on our offers to help.  Let's roll!

The IDFG online fishing planner would be a great source for URLs for the lakes, but it is down.  If it is still down on Monday I will talk to their web folks.  If it is back up, I will check on the planned stability of the URLs there.  Either way I will report back here.

A quick glance at this thread would lead you to believe I'm talking to myself.   :cookoo:     ;D

The planner was down last weekend because of some state-wide server problems.  It is up now.

They are developing a new planner and expect it to be up in about three weeks, with new URLs for the lakes at that time.  Inasmuch as we are preparing for next season, no rush, right?

Does anyone have other suggested sources for the per-lake URLs?
