broken blade again
« on: Feb 02, 2013, 12:48 AM »
this is stupid. new blades last year for my hand crank eskimo 8" after the original baldes broke. one of the replacement blades broke on me today. i put my mora blades on my eskimo that i bought new last year so i had an auger to use. do you think the mora blades will work good on the eskimo?

If you have the standard auger then yes. They should be the same blades.

I have never heard of any auger blades breaking on any augers. Is it breaking a chunk off or bending or what exactly do you mean by breaking? I can see it if you have it at an angle in the hole and put too much sideways movement on it but not just drilling a hole straight down. And of course if you are drilling through rock and sand maybe.

I can't see how that could happen without a lot of pressure on it. Those things are pretty thick.

i dunno. think i was a little to excited about being on hardwater. i never smashed it on the ice or took the ice off the blades and always put cover back on when finished drilling holes. at least i had 5 holes drilled in a pattern. it broke on the last hole.

I do not know about Eskimo blades but since 2006 or 2007 Mora blades sold with the auger are made in China. In fact the hole auger is made there ,look for made in Sweden on packaging also stamped on blades when buying replacements. If you use the search feature you will find a few threads on the topic of Strike Master auger blades. Just a side note while shopping at my local Gander Mountain last month look at both Strike Master Hand models Mora's still Chinese made Lazer's made in Sweden.
