flouro knot help and coiling...
« on: Jan 30, 2013, 08:01 PM »
when using a uni knot with flouro how many wraps you using? im using 50lb. its tough tying! if i cant get it.. im going to drop to 30lb. or stick with all steel.  also it coils pretty bad after being on spool. do you think stretching and the friction caused by straightening will weaken it? im using seagur leader material.

50# coils pretty bad i use 30 and that still coils but a couple of tugs and it somewhat straightens out.. I recently just jumped down to 20# after seeing 2  , 20# pike brought up with no problems on  12# test this season im rethinking things a bit...

I have used palamar knot in past. I shave mixed results. I consider myself an excellent knot tier and sometimes I feel it cuts into itself. Maybe I will give it another shot.

You certainly are using some of the best with seaguar leader material. I can't offer much. The Palomar is all I use and can't  say that I ever felt it was cutting itself. I decided on this knot based off all the tests I have seen over the years showing how strong it is under load. It will be interesting if someone can offer something better for you. Good luck!
