how to get more rpm's
« on: Jan 23, 2013, 06:16 PM »
i have a oseola (pre strikemaster)  she runs awsome, but i feel maybe she needs more rpms. i have here adjusted good. she starts and idles very well and runs good. but with the throttle wide open. i can take my thumb and move the metal thing on the carb and make it go faster.  is there away i can get more rpm's or should i leave it alone...   its a tech 3hp motor

The throttle cable housing may have slipped in the hold down.

If you know what I am saying, you probably possess the skill to adjust it.

If not, best have a pro do it.     ;)2

Do you need more info ?

And if it's a solid linkage like the one on my 3HP Strikemaster Cobra you can put a slight bend in the middle of the rod.
Be carefull of how much you bend it and check that it doesn't hang open when you're done.

when you hold the governor with your finger and get more RPMs, does it cut better and have more balls??  Or are you doing this just while holding the auger and spinning it in the air.  Leaning the main jet a tad, without running the motor too lean, may give you the proper RPMs.  But more RPMs don't always necessarily mean more power....all augers were designed to do one specific task.  Most do it fairly well out of the box.

I'd personally bore it out, add nitrous injection, a small turbo, and some mean looking pipes.  I bet you could get some really high rpm's then...for a few seconds.

ok guys  lol that was funny, but i was just asking a question here.  i do have her runniing good and cutting decent. it is just not as fast as i think she should go but maybee i am wrong here.   but i do notice if i am cutting  and have the throttle wide open , i can  push the govenor forward and she will turn faster thowing the shavings.  i was just wondering if this  motor usually runs at this pace.. it is a older magnum 3   33cc   ociola (pre strikemaster) motor  .   maybee i dont have the setting set right. she starts and idles from the 3rd short pull and runs awsome not a sputter.  i run opti 2 oil in it all the time and have put in a c8 plug instead of the c6 to get a hotter spark....bill

If your throttle lever has any play in it, shorten up the cable or linkage.  That's the only option you have other than finding a lever with a longer throw on it.

You really don't need to redline a 2 cycle to bore a hole in the ice...just sharp blades and some torque.

I have an Osceola Magnum III Plus 49cc 8" auger that I have been using for the last twenty plus years. I don't know how well this matches up with your auger but on mine the gearing is such that it is a slow turner when compared to some other augers. Frankly the light weight, ease of starting and reliability have more than made up for the lack of cutting speed. If'n yer the competitive type that needs to be in the speed augering race you may want to look at a different auger, eh.

I simply by-passed the governor on my 1990 strikemaster. Same engine.  Once you do that itll rev up quite a bit more. You'll need to adjust the carb a little to run good at the higher rpm.  Did this mod back in 1999 or so. Still runs great.
