Got out this morning to see what the conditions of the ice was on the LaPorte Lakes.
Stone-here are some guys who were out on Stone
I ended up on Stone with Scott(fishgutz) and his son Kyle. Scott had a couple flags but nothing hooked.
Scott, Kyle and I were catching perch the whole time I was there. We were in 24 ft of water and they were thick on the bottom. I was using the "Vertical Obsession" lure by G & G tipped with a beemoth. Thanks George!
They were little with some that were maybe 8 inches.... fun catching them though.
Pine-here are some guys who were out on North Pine behind Gracies..
I decided to try the ice on North Pine too. Here's a pic, that shows there was open water in the area and the wind was tough. Several guys were out and catching some small gills/perch/crappie and bass.
The whole time, I'm thinking about whether we should go ahead and have the LaPorte Ice Derby on the 26th, and I think we will. We are supposed to get some cold weather this week that will lock these lakes back up. We won't be able to fish the whole lakes but there will definitely be fishable area. We will be giving away a Vex FL-12 to the winner and other prizes. Register this week for $10 at the LaPorte Parks Dept or $15 the day of the event at Cummings Lodge. Rotory will be selling chili for lunch, and free coffee and donuts at registration. If you want info give me a call. 219-510-3193 For this tournament you can fish any LaPorte County Lakes. Check the Event Thead for a few more details
