Brand New to Ice Fishing - Sioux Falls Area
« on: Jan 14, 2013, 12:19 PM »
Hey everyone,

I am 46 yrs old and never ice fished in my life until Saturday at Family Fishing Park and then again yesterday at Lake Alvin.  I didn't catch anything either day, but I did get some bites and saw some fish at the Family Fishing Park.  Nothing though at Lake Alvin.  I just have the basic equipment (hand auger, hub shelter, and a couple of spinning rods/reels.)  No electronics, that will probably have to wait a year or two.  I just discovered this board on Saturday, and I have to say I love all of the discussion and appreciate how everyone shares their tips.  What a great resource.

Bitter is well worth the drive if you've got someone who knows the lake.

Eagleblood, I got your PM, but I am unable to reply.  Must have to be a member of the board for a while before you can reply or send a PM.  Anyway, that is a nice offer, I really appreciate it.  It sounds like fun.  I don't know if I could swing a Thursday or Friday because I work those days.  I will look at my calendar for the next few weeks and see if I can take one of those off.

Family park is great for multi species fishing such as trout and bass, but there are other places like lake Alvin.

There are fish at Family Park.  It's close to town and it's a great place to take kids.
