I was driving by Clear lake a few days ago and it was just starting to skim over.  The cold snap is great but the snow we got is a bit worrisome.

I seen some lakes skimmed over and others still open across the middles, not thinking this weekend but maybe the first weekend of the new year with the weather for the next 7 days looking good but a bit of snow also not good.  I know we should be but we ain't :) What's up Swampbuckster?

Has anyone found a lake with 2" or more on it yet?  That's all I need to go out and start cutting holes.  I don't care to know lake names, I just want to know that it's out there.  I'm starting to twitch from ice withdrawals.

I've been ice hunting all morning around the area. I've found inch and a half to two on ice with snow on top but the areas with frozen slush have 3.  Was able to get over 10 fow at a local lake and fished for a half hour and marked one fish but not a taker. Sunday most lakes should be safe. Currently watching 5 tip ups on the canal.

Went out checkin, heres what I have. I don't believe any of these lakes are safe or I would have gotton my gear!

Clear lake 2 1/2 to 3" ten yards out from park, !/2 clear ice on bottom the rest is white ice, lake looked locked up with a few wet spots under the snow, just enough snow to cover the ice.

Grass lake same as above.

Melincamp was slushy at the edges, did not walk on it, broke a piece of ice two inches thick and white at shore.

Sand lake looks locked swans keeping some holes open, did not test.

Walmpers pretty much locked up, could see some wet spots, did not venture out.

Vinyard lake ten yards out from boat launch 2 inches white ice on top of 1/2 inch clear, lake looked open yeaterday but covered today.

Columbia drove by looks locked up, was pretty much all open yesterday.

Clark lake drove by, looks locked up, plenty of wet spots in the snow, shore line looked like it could be slushy first few feet.

Yes, most lakes aren't safe. But there are a FEW areas that are able to be fished, you just have to know the lakes! And know the ice! be safe everyone. We will have SAFE ice very soon so don't rush!

How are the lake levels out there? Did they rise back up a little?

A couple days ago Big Portage (Waterloo) was wide open, some ice by shore. Went by today no open water, light dusting of snow on it. I think by next weeked it might be ok. Live in Grass Lake and saw Grass Lake was covered, but it's so shallow.

3 inches of ice in the shallow waters on main body of Big Wolf. Light snow on slush over the ice. Got out about 70 feet from my shore using my spud and it got thinner, about 2.5 inches. Stopped there.

All locked up, few small wet spots from the weight of the snow, but those were shrinking slowly all day today. Canals probably ready already. Channels between all the lakes are still unstable, but those are the last to freeze due to the current.

With the temps predicted this week, I feel we will easily have safe (4 inches or more) ice by next weekend, maybe sooner.   ;D

Can't wait.

Its getting better. Anywhere from 2 to 4 in places. Finding lakes with consistent thicknesses over 2 can be tough. Spotty ice so be careful.

Went out Sat not enough ice out deep enough to give a try.  Tomorrow will be the next try.  Figured some one has found some.  Not gonna travel anywhere than where I'm at just wondering how everyone else is faring.

Fished Monday on 2.5" on a couple of lakes between Jackson and Calhoun counties.  There were some other guys fishing, but ice was spotty.  I wasn't able to venture out very far to the good spots, and the bite was slow, but at least I got to fish. ;D
