Always ran jiffy's...hand me down from my dad model 30 from mid 80's than upgraded to 2hp legend lightning around 2000.  Last year upgraded to a strikemaster laser pro 10".  So far love it...very fast cutting!

I added some bling to it...the pinstripes down the bit.  Also added vinyl/plastic door edginging to the flitting to keep from wearing out my auger bag and trap cover.  It also keeps the flitting from getting dings and doesn't create any binding while drilling.

Ryno does that edging stay on by itself or you add some glue of some sort?

Was wondering the same thing and if you could send a link or reference what you exactly used. Did some google searches and can't find anything that seems right. I can't do pin stripes, but that looks like a great idea.

we dont really get really thick ice in most of the spots that we fish so I shortened down my augers.
1) less weight
2) easier storage
3) less weight!!!  :flex:

The door edge comes with an adhesive already in it.  All I did was make sure the flitting was clean and started pressing it on.  It fits pretty much perfectly.  I used it all season last year...which wasn't that ling but I still drilled a few hundred holes and itheld up just like when I put it on.  Pretty simple auger mod really.  I bought a role of it off ebay and think it was 20 or 25 foot.  Was enough to do my 10" lazer my dads 9" jiffy and my old 8" jiffy.  Here a link in ebay for what I used...think its a different vender but looks to be identical.  You may message them to make sure comes wth adhesive already in it tho.  Ill see if I can find the vendor I bought from last year.

My favorite auger is:

My 3 HP Strikemaster Cobra
Great auger, built like a tank has tons of power but is heavy.

And my other auger is:

A rebranded Eskimo Mako.
These new augers with all of the plastic on them pretty much suck!!!
The engine runs great, has no where near the power of the Strikemaster.
I carry my augers inside my flip over hut inside an auger bag but the plastic on the Eskimo just can't handle the abuse.
My first trip I had a brokent throttle lever by the time I reached my destination.   >:(
Would be a great auger if you were walking in or had very short commutes but over long or bumpy trails it just doesn't stand up.
Mine has been used twice since I bought it. The rest of the time it sits in the shed as an emergency back up if my Strikemaster ever has an issue. Plastic has no business being used on ice augers, especially where the average winter temp is below -20!!!

Drifter,

Your  3 HP Strikemaster Cobra looks great.  I sure would like to find one.
I am experiencing the same as you with my " plastic "  Jiffy auger, can't handle the rough travel.
I am not mean to it, they just don't stand up to any abuse.
Stay safe  ....    Tom

I need to track down some pictures of my augers or just get off my butt out to the shop and take some.    Anyways here is a quick clip of my 10 + year old Eskimo Shark cutting her first hole of the season last year.   I think she needs some sharper blades.

Not the best pictures, but all I have right now of my Jiffy Model 30 10".  I have since added a big huge mitten-grip pull-cord handle from an old arctic cat.

You can't see it in the photos but I got those magnets that hold the blade guard on, and they work awesome!!  They're cheap and so darn convenient!  I still use the strap for transport, sometimes, but it's really not necessary unless it's rolling all over the place in the back of the pickup.  As long as you bungee the handle to something so it isn't sliding around like crazy I've never had an issue with the magnets alone keeping the cover on.

You need to upload them on a photo hosting site such as photobucket.com, then just copy the URL with [img] tags to the forum and it will embed the picture.

10" Strikemaster Magnum III I found on Craigslist a couple years ago. I don't use it often since I have a 4" Strikemaster Lazer on an adapter that I use a cordless drill with to fish for perch and gills on Lake St. Clair.

Bart -

Might be a good idea to gas her up, and run her for about 30-40 minutes to break it in prior to first trip out on the ice.
Some folks mix a little extra oil, some don't for break in.   Some folks start it, get her warm, and the let her idle for most of the time.
Others rev it (easy though) occasionally during the break in...I have found with my Tanaka, that it definitely starts easier and runs better
the more I have used it (second season especially since I didn't use it very much the first season).  Search on break in procedures to double
check my faulty memory.
