locating walleye

im fishing a huge inland lake and need to know what kind of structure is ideal. it has very sharp drops pretty much all around it. what do i look for when im looking at a lake map?

Rock bars, humps. Areas that look like they would be feeding area. The bottom of the break can be good as well during the day. I would look for large area as they will hold more fish.

also if you can find midwater flats surrounded by deep water, try those too.

theres structure in a lake, even if its contour lines.  Just the bathymetry of the lake itself.

Find the bait and you will find them, keep moving until you mark fish, if you cant get the fish you are marking to bite within ten to fifteen minutes move and find different fish. We fish a large shallow basin lake 18 - 20 feet at the deepest and its all about moving and finding active fish to put some on the ice. Your moves don't need to be large either, just 50 to a hundred feet at a time. It works wonders on finding them if you have 4 guys all going different directions from a starting point. We finally got it in our heads to use this technique this year and the payoff was great. The big thing is not spending time where there is no fish or non biting fish. Sometimes we never dropped a lure if there were no marks on the flasher, we just moved until we got over some fish. If you can read your flasher good you will be able to tell when you are on bigger fish like walleye. Good luck.

Where we fish in NY, St Lawrence river, walleyes usually hang out on the walls of drop offs. We see them stacked on the finder waiting for bait fish. On your map find 10 to 20 ft depth changes and fish those walls. Use jigging spoons and offset jigging with tip ups baited with minnows. Good luck
