I've got others in the works, but I'm going to have to switch woods. I made the others out of basswood, but it swells and cracks. I was real mad when I realized the pike, which took me about 10 hours to make, got cracked paint after the first swim. Going to switch to cedar which I hear doesn't act like basswood.
Most of the time I use a big, live chub, regardless of ice, snow, or water clarity. I've had great luck.I do use a spoon inline, with hooks removed to weight my minnow. Provides extra flash.1230112306a by jasonmichalski, on FlickrI also like to jig a firetiger spoon tipped with a big minnow. I use this to rustle up some fun when things are slow, or mess with short fish when they are in the hole. For fakes, red and white is tough to beat. If my live chub isn't working, I'll raise it up and swim the fake. A lot of time I'll swim both, with the fake being the low deke, and the live minnow being the higher one.

Wow Jason, I can see where your free time is going since there is no ice. At least you have something to show for it
It helps me relax at night because of my narcolepsy I have trouble sleeping when I should be, I'd have more done, but we still have good ice as of last weekend there was more then the weekend before. You should let me know if you make it back this way, I'm only 4 miles from the Roscommon County line. My Dad lives on the Saginaw Bay next year if it freezes I might try out there, we use too see some monster pike under the ice.
I might take ya up on that offer. Narcolepsy, so do you ever nod off in the shanty ?
What kind of motion does that S shape make in the water? Looks pretty good. What are your fins made of also?
We'll see if it produces this weekend in the U.P.!
