Beaver Dam tipups
« on: Jan 10, 2012, 06:26 PM »
I currently own 6 beaver dams and love them, however I have noticed the finish has started to get rough. I would like to refinish them, before they start to splinter or crack. I'm guessing my best bet would be polyurethane...is there a certain type I should be purchasing?  Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

Spar varnish is always a good choice when water is a factor.  It is designed for marine applications cold or hot. That should do you just fine.

I bet if you call them they'd be able to put you in the right direction.

Very good point!  I'm sure they have their own recommendations.

Otherwise I'm sure your suggestion would work as well if there's trouble getting a hold of someone over there.

Thanks for the replies...just got off the phone with them, and they recommended a normal varnish. He had not heard of the spar finish, but he said that it sounded good. Its a treat to finally speak to a company that speak English  and cares about your question.  I will be a buyer for life.

You can go to just about any hardware/paint dealer and find spar products. Just be sure to read the labels and ask the questions in regards to marine applications.  Good luck and glad you are pleased from your phone conversation.
