2012 Chautauqua Lake
I'm not sure where the main Chautauqua lake thread went, but I can't seem to find it other than the B.S. thread.  I'm situated near the lake within a few minutes so can be a source of good info.  Were currently getting a pretty decent rate of rainfall as of 9:00 pm.  I was shocked at the one unknown individual who was out 100 yards from the mayville train depot today.  I watched from shore as he sat on his bucket and was fishing away.  If this person is on here,,,,what amount of ice did you find?

I hope that this thread can be the go to thread for this season that we will have soon I hope

The happy hooker is just a couple miles east on 394 toward jamestown.  A true mom and pop shop with very knowledgeable staff.  Nothing against the hut but sometimes the only person to get you bait or tackle is an underpaid college kid who can't tell the difference between wax worms and spikes.  There are also good lodging options in mayville.

The upper end is sketchy from what I saw in mayville.  By the weekend if the weather report holds up.  Did catch my first bullhead through the ice on burtis today.  Yee Haa!  I'm over that place.

I drove the lake this morning and physically walked out in Maple Springs.  It appeared from a distance that the ice was gone but closer inspection showed 1.5 inches still remaining at 11:00 this morning.  Probably a quarter inch of water on top though.  I only walked out 5 feet where the water if I broke through wouldn't have been half way up my boots.

We had one water rescue yesterday of someone who went through.

You can't see much at 4:30am.  I know when I left the house the winds were light.  That changed alot.  The lake appeared to be locked up from Bemus all the way to Burtis.  The wind hopefully won't affect that much, but I like to fish the north end and the wind may destroy that yet again.  I will do some checking tomorrow and if all else fails maybe ASP lakes will be fishable for Sat...
