Out of curiousity does the Navionics App need cell service when out on the ice? Or how does it work?

I was also wondering about that. And what lakes in montana does it have on it?

It has 90% of the lakes covered. I know you can download the map sections for countours and such but can you still use gps and plot points without cell service? I guess I should have been more specific.

MTA,

Yes you can use the GPS when out of service as it uses the phones GPS receiver to pinpoint your position.

OneMoreCast..... The link is temporary disable. I should have the new/updated bathymetric ready by tomorrow afternoon. There are several new lakes in each MT Fishing region....i.e., Salmon Lake, Placid,  Whitefish, Harpers, Beavertail, etc.

ALRIGHT IceShanty members!!!! The NEW bathymetric .kml files are completed. There are several new lakes that are frequently fish here that now have the bathymetric lines, so kudos to FWP for working on this! You will find all the UPDATED info on the first post. The zipfile is large(122MB) so will take some time to download. There are a total of 9 .kml files(some not compatible for smartphone). If you have any question please PM me. Thanks.

I've used your maps quite a bit in the past, particularly for Tongue River Reservoir.  Am I understanding you right that I will lose TRR if I download the new Region 7 maps?

Thanks again for doing this.

No Tongue Res is still there. Due to copyright, by the surveyor and FWP,  it was removed from the  updated data. But being that Region 7 didn't change, I left the same .kml file in the zipfile. All the name are different so even if you unzip the NEW data there will be no overwrite/erase of the data. Confused you even more!  Lol!

Awesome.  But there are a few things missing.  There is a sick sunken island on Canyon Ferry that is not showing on the map, and another hole which is money on Ling at times. Which is good I guess.  Just wondering what else may not be showing.

Due to "bandwidth" restriction, I am going to TEMPORARILY disable the link. I will post once it is back up and running. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Looks like you can only download the zipfile onto your phone right now. I'm having issue downloading it on to my computer(could just be mine though). You can also transfer the data from your phone to your computer as well. The original server host should be back and running at the beginning of next month. PM me if any questions. Thanks.

That was the problem I had when I sent you a pm. Would download to my computer. I had to have a friend email me the files I needed.

@ TooLucky406

My hat is tipped to you sir as this is the most imformative post/topic I have seen regarding lake contours / depth / bathymetry etc...that I have ever seen on the 'Net.

MANY states that don't have maps available on their websites ALSO have "metadata" and GIS info available.

As an open-water fisherman I have always thought that a decent map of a lake / reservoir is the best place to start.

I can add more info concerning maps & such in a few days.

ttt

Forgot I made this post. Just wanted to "bump" this up for those folks that have not gotten a chance to download the bathymetric .kml.

Currently no new data from FWP.

Any questions feel free to pm me. Thanks.

There is a app  called fishidy  that I recently downloaded onto my phone.  it has some lake contour maps for free.  it definitely isn't the best quality but it's free and it works.  used it  on Georgetown last week.

icefishmissoula thanks for the heads up on the app!.... with some additional software I'm been creating geo-pdf with the bathymeteric and using the Avenza PDF Maps app(free as well).
