Caught last night, fishing a five inch soft plastic tube bait, in five feet of water.

44 inches, 23 pounds!

Lots of fun on a 30 inch jig rod.

Still plenty of ice here for anyone who wants to come up!

I hope she's still whole because at 33#'s it is nearly 8#'s heavier than the IGFA all tackle world record!!!

Let's just say that it was a good thing it was a 10" hole. It would not have come through an 8" at all.

Actually thought I had an inconnu (sheefish) on after the strike and first run. We are not allowed to use gaffs up here, and I had him started into the hole three times before I finally got him on the way up and grabbed his lower jaw. He made two more really long runs after the first two times to the hole.

That fish is a beauty. I might be making a trip that way next spring to Cassiar/Jade City. Might have to head a little bit further to try some of my special bait on your lunkers.

Usually we eat them, as they are delicious, however this one is at the Yukon Dept of Fisheries lab now. They are going to do some research on it, and have it mounted for display in the Fisheries Office. Kind of neat.

They are the only known species of freshwater cod, and are called ling cod up here.
