Putting your tip up hook into your line.
« on: Feb 27, 2011, 09:01 AM »
Can't believe it has taken me this long to ask this, there are a lot of creative people on here so I am sure there is someone here who has figured a solid way to leave your hook on your tip up line at the end of the day without sticking the point into the line.  I have been ice fishing with a few buddies letely and helping pickup tip ups at the end up the day I have afterwords had a few of my hooks burried into the Ice line to the point the hook is stuck in good weekening the Ice line.  Any ideas, pictures if possible.  Thanks

Rubber bands work well.

No.  Some high flyers and some polars.

Rubber bands work OK,or glue a small piece of velcro on one end,I have some polars that had the velcro on them when I bought them.

I made my own type rod wraps using 1-1/2 inch x 6 inch peices of velcro, sewed one side and wrap them around all my hooks on all rods. Works great. You need 2 of em on double jig poles though. Also works good on Schooley poles spring bobbers . Haven't had one break off in a few years. Made a few 3 inch wraps for mid-line hooks also. Had a few I put shipping tape in a small spot for treble hook type lures as well to keep em from burying the hook into the cloth side of velcro. Just found some on the net for 10.00/3, with clear  windows to see baits. Naw, 5.00 for 3 feet of 1-1/2" velcro  and a little time works for me !!!

i always have a bag of rubber bands. but after my big bag of em blew away i just stick the poin t of the hook into the line with out sticking the barb in. btw heritage tipups have a hook keeper. and they have small orange hook keepers with velcro that go around ur spool

Ditto on the rubberband thing. I use the fat ones that come around broccoli or asparagus and I tie a piece of string around them so I can get them off easily with my frozen fingers.

I tried them all and the Velcro works the best. Some get it at the dollar store but I bought mine on ebay, you want double sided velcro
