Glad you are safe, but I don't think you will be okay for awhile.  I went thru at the Slough last year and that is a feeling I never want again. Never heard any cracking just next thing I know I am going down. Had the same instinct to kick my feet and grab for the ice. I was lucky tho I wear my picks in my sleeves so I got a hold of the ice right away. Still bothers me on ice that I have doubts about and I guess that is a good thing because I am very cautious now and No FISH is worth losing your life over. I walked off 3 times this year because the ice just did not feel safe, gun shy I guess but I can sit here and type about it at least. Stay Safe and Enjoy the BEST Sport there is !!!

wow, I was driving to Basspro this afternoon and looked at a couple ponds along 94 as I drove along and saw this one with an obvious hole in it. I think that was it. Sorry to hear this bro, and so glad you got out so easily. God's grace to you. Be safe my friends!!

Glad your OK. that's scary stuff.    I myself dropped one leg in the slough this year. We all need to remember to be safe, its easy to get distracted with the thrill of the hunt.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Thanks for all the kindments. Ya I was Lucky and had some help from above. I wont be too edgy to go ice fishing though, I kinda knew I was cheating the drink for a while on this pond. After years of fishing it though, I just never got bit until today. And yes I do have the place figured out bite wise but there's more important things in life. Theres always somewhere else to go. Ended up taking Jr. out this afternoon to Loomis and didnt fare too well mostly due to his attention span about the size of a strobe lights blink. Even though, Im glad I got to take him out. The light cracking that I heard was no indication of the impending doom, it happened too fast to back up.
