Exactly what I was thinking.  Drilling a 10 inch hole removes a lot of ice,  almost three times as much as a 6"hole.

Have you tried contacting strikemaster?  It is probably a discontinued item, but they might be able to help you with some blades.  If the ones you have are any good at all they could be sharpened.

I have never seen a 10 inch hand auger, sounds like it would take quite a man to turn a 10" hand auger.I have a 7 inch mora and it ain't easy.I have tried a nils 8 inch hand auger and was impressed how easy they work.LLS

i have a 8" nils as well, and they do cut unbelievably well. only draw back is how quick you can loose the edge. The first time was obvious , i run it into a sand bar, the second time the water was only 2-3" under the ice and then sand. both times rendered useless, i have yet to have them sharpened yet. the draw back being  a power auger would probably still kept making hole the rest of the day, even if you don't carry a file with you

Here in winnipeg the ice is about 3 to 4 feet thick.  If we are just gonna be fishing in the shack we hand auger 8 inch holes in 5 mins.now if we are gonna be mobile then we we use a 36 volt drill with adapter for the hand auger. No problems, easy breezy. If we only had 1 inch of ice we would never use a power auger or even the drill.  This is not just me but my whole clan.

10" hand auger is just asking for pain, and HUGE arms after a full season of doing it.   ;D

Good luck OP, you will definitely get a workout.

OH MAN ten inch hand auger ? . You must have muscles in your sheet . I never used one , never want to nor will I ever .  :o . Throw it away man, or use it as nothing but a wall hanger and conversation to tell your grandkids stories how tough you used to be . Just talking about it makes me wanna cry and I cranked many an 8" hole through two feet plus of ice .  ;D

get the blades sharp and try it out, heck try and sharpen them yourself, use a whet stone, take your time and do not alter the original angle of the blades. Then go try and cut some ice, if it's too much to turn by hand, convert it to electric or trim it down to an 8" or even a 6". If you don't have to much $$ invested in it you can afford to play around with it and if you ruin it completely...you're not out much. ;) I haven't ever seen a 10" hand screw. :flex:

I've got an old 10in Mora a neighbor gave me. The blades are really hard to find but they are out there. Old tackle shops that have had them sitting for years are your best bet. It isn't terribly bad with good blades but when they are not perfect, WHOA!!!. Compared to an 8 or 7 in. you will be drilling less hole's  most likely. Get a Mora 8in it is damn near perfect. Nils are nice but expensive as hell and  a new blade is twice th price of a new Mora blade set.
IMHO 8&7in holes are the only way to go anything smaller is a handicap and 10in is nice but not needed. 8in Mora is not that difficult at all even in 18in ice.
