Chetek Chain-  10 inches of ice, 14 inches of snow on top, very hard to walk in.  Be prepared for 3 inches of water to shoot out of the hole.

Birchwood, Rice Lake area.. Red Cedar Lake 7 inches in one hole 20 yards away 4 inches. Ice seems spotty. four wheelers and some sleds have made it across the lake, lots of slush wherever there have been holes drilled. 200 dollar boots leak :[ makes its a long night but at least the eyes are biting!!

Poskin Lake, Barron County-about 7-8 inches of ice, lots of snow and slush.  Hard to get around by foot.  Not happy about the snow we are getting tonight.
If I'm not at work I'm on the ice or in the woods!

Big Blake is the same as most lakes around here.  6"-7" ice with snow on top which makes it hard to walk.  Keep breaking through the snow and slush.  I drilled some holes and went through 6" snow then 2" ice then about 2" water and then about 6" of the old ice that we had before the snow storm  :%$#!:

STURGEON BAY—Two people were rescued from a chunk of floating ice this morning after calling 9-1-1 from a cell phone about a half-mile offshore on the Green Bay side of Little Sturgeon Bay.

The U.S. Coast Guard used a 22-foot airboat to bring the man and woman to safety after receiving a report about 1:30 a.m.

“The ice out there definitely isn’t stable,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Casey Garlow. “All it takes is for the wind to shift and things can go really wrong out there.”

The two were reportedly ice fishing when the 12-inch thick ice broke off and floated away. They were rescued about 3 a.m. and both are in good condition.

The Coast Guard reminds people that ice is unpredictable and dangerous. People should carry a whistle, noise-making device, cell phone or a VHF-FM radio to contact the nearest Coast Guard station in case of trouble.

I went to a small local lake this morning. Drove out on the ice with my ATV. Pulled my shanty out there. Found 8 inches of good ice, and a few spots with of slush.

Lake Wausau had a car break through!

Here's the Article from the Stevens Point Journal :

Car partially breaks through ice on lake

A vehicle remained partially submerged Friday afternoon after breaking through the ice on Lake Wausau.

Marathon County Sheriff's Department Lt. Chad Billeb said the incident was reported at 8:35 a.m. A wrecker company was working to remove the vehicle, but employees said it might have to remain on the lake overnight, Billeb said.

The owner of the vehicle was ice fishing on the lake near the McCleary Bridge, which connects Wausau to Rib Mountain.

"The driver happened to notice the vehicle was lower than it had been earlier," Billeb said. "They tried to remove it but realized it was stuck."

No one was injured and no charges are likely. Billeb said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources might review the incident.

Careful everyone, no need to take risks just for a few fish!

Happy Holidays, Good luck and Stay on Top!
