@fishingplumber28, how did your search in the cold lake area go?  I was wondering if anyone in the Edmonton area has been out to any of the lakes around town.  I was too busy over the weekend to get out anywhere.  :(  Any been past Jackfish, Lac la Nonne, Wabamun, Lac Ste Anne, Devils, etc?

Made the drive around today... Should have taken the boat. Wabamun was wide open. Even some of the smaller lakes I checked aren't frozen!

Checked a few more lakes... I won't be going again for a week or two. It's scary out there.

I didn't check Star, but all the other lakes around Jackfish I hit had one inch or less, right at shore.  Not ideal, and with the snow insulating now and the warm weather this week, everyone use caution if you plan on going! I'll sit it out a bit longer.

Hilda is frozen 3", Ethel just froze, little bear not sure but I would guess 4" I'm sure the rainbow hunters will be out there this weekend. As for me I will be trying Hilda in the shallow waters. Really sucks that bourque is closed for pike .....I noticed the tips of their livers was black as coal, oil plant fall out?? I was out there one year and it was snowing from clear blue sky! Going to chase burbs out there though this year....

Going to head to Crawling Valley, a few trout ponds over the weekend to check out the ice. Itching to start punching some holes. I guess we will bring the rods as well in case there is a possibility of casting from shore.

No longer going to check the ice, just going to see if casting is an option. Hope January has better results.

Spent the weekend at wabumun lake. I didn't get out on the ice but I could see a massive pressure crack on the middle running eastwards from fallis.
Mom always  said, go out side.. I guess it stuck..

Good Afternoon,
Upper K  10" , off of the point 10-12". No snow on lake (as usual use to wind). I did not fish just punched a few holes. Lower K fished close to open water at bottom of spill way first hole 1.5 ", quickly moved
Approx 50 yes east of first whole drilled ice 5". Drilled  6 holes fished until 4 pm. Landed 2bulls missed 2.
Fish and Wildlife officer out checking licences and checking for bait. No one was ticketed.
The officer told me ice was 12-14. " approx 50 yes east of where I was. No snow on ice.
I as fishing with white bunny strip leaches.

Also stopped at Wedge pond and Barrier on the way back no holes on wedge, Barrier has good ice @. 8"".

Merry Christmas to all on Iceshanty😎

First of all Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all. Went out on Cold Lake yesterday on French bay. In the small portion of the bay off the boat launch 9 inches of good black ice. As you move out onto the main part of the bay there is a transition that runs east to west and some sketchy looking ice I went over and drilled a hole 2 inches! a fair amount of current under the ice. It may only be in a few spots but recommend giving her a little more time, some good negative temps coming up. I am going to go out again in a couple days and will post an update. Take care all and talk later.
