StrikeMaster Lazer Mag.............help needed
« on: Nov 27, 2010, 12:51 PM »
I just picked up a Lazer Mag auger, and it's missing a spring or linkage between the throttle cable and the carb. It has the Tecumseh engine, and is about 5 years old.

Does anyone have any pictures of the linkage between the cable and the carb?
Could anyone take their fuel tank off and take a picture for me?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve

Found some info on the Strikemaster website, looks like it's the "governor spring" that I'm missing.
Does anyone know if that's included in the carb rebuild kit?

I'm going to order a new fuel tank kit, and the carb rebuild kit(if that spring is included)........$50 for the 2 parts to get it running great again isn't bad.

I know the auto parts stores have the springs, but getting the right one would be the challenge.

I would like to see a picture, I know someone has to have this auger sitting around.

I had the same problem last year. I fixed it with a spring of an old weedwacker. It was easy and worked like a champ.

I had my 2000 apart yesterday cleaning the carb. That spring is about a in. long and maybe 1/4 in round. Very fine wire. I would think any small engine repair shop would be able to help. Maybe this will help/. Sprig is just above fuel line and diafram cover.

Thanks for the pic.............that's the little spring I need.

I emailed Strikemaster to see if they could help me out, waiting for their response.

I put the new tank and new governor spring on today. Filled the tank and it fired up.
Runs a little rough at idle then dies. Revs up good, but idle is not smooth like it should be.

Any ideas?

Have you tried adjusting the jets on the carb?

Maybe the idle needs to set a little higher. i may be wrong but that probably only has one mixture screw. Strikemaster should be able to tell you how many turns out to set it.

I think it only has a idle adjust. Did you remove the carb and take the diaframs and needle out. Clean and reinstall. Be careful use some carb clean.

jiffy is the way to go . very reliable. air screw goes all the way in then one in a qaurter out. then trie it . then set idle. thats after cleaning. jet could be tarnished.

go direct with strikemaster.  they were a lot of help to me last year when my handle broke.  because it was under warranty, they shipped me out a new handle for free. hopefully strikemaster gets back ot you soon.

are you back up and running?

Was the plug changed ??
Get some Sea Foam and add some to your gas...
Let it idle for awhile to give it time to work through..

Yup, new plug, new fuel line, new fuel tank with cap, new governor spring.
Sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb, but might do it again and let it set.

I'm going to mix some fresh gas with some fresh 2-cycle oil, for the recommended 25:1 ratio. I think the stuff I put in is at 40:1 since it's what I use in my chain saw as well.

It revs up fine, but as soon as I let off the throttle it idles rough then dies. But it starts right up again when I pull the recoil, but idles rough and dies.

I have had my lazer mag for 2 years now. The first year it ran just how yours is running. Then last year there was a lot of talk about running synthetic oil with a ratio of 100 to 1. I didn't dare do that but I did run synthetic with a 50 to 1 ratio and now it starts easier and runs a lot better and it will idle now while I go from hole to hole where it would stall before. I have no idea what the long term effects will be but it runs good now.

I would think at 100:1 or even 50:1 it's going to smoke a lot, more oil in the fuel means more burning off.

I'll add some Sea Foam to the tank and see if that helps, already have it in the garage so that's an easy addition.

Steve
