A better picture of the rack I built.
Just some stock, and some welding....and some MadDog gun holders (for the auger)
and some MadDog bucket holders (mounting bracket cut off and welded to the rack,
and some black paint.  The base fits tightly to my sled basket.  I just use U bolts to
attach it.

I searched back and found an old post of mine about this subject.

Here's some pictures of some racks, most are my buddy's sleds. They used pipe couplings or tube steel and split them to make "U" brackets for the augers to set in, then bungeed them down. The racks also hold our bait buckets.

This guy mounted is auger blade vertically on the side of his sled, but it's pretty scary looking.

I don't have an auger mount on my sled this year. I have a dog sled for fishing near the house.

Hard to beat an Otter sled for hauling in snow.

Hope this gives you a few ideas for the up coming season.

I added a cover to my jet sled last year.  Made it out of 1/4 plywood, and put a few coats of marine epoxy on it.  More than doubled the carrying capacity of my sled.   Doubles as a wind break.  Also works as a table.  Doesn't add much weight.  If I were to do it over though, I'd make the sides 9" instead of the 12" that they are.

I've learned quite a few tricks from Pegasus, and that's just one of them.
It's also used to keep track of which traps are active....

What is your box made out of?
Ever been tempted to stand it on end and use it as a shelter?  I know I have with mine.

If you don't have control of those ropes, the sleds go all over the place. I use this single person water ski tow rope with the pully to keep the sled straight. Great deal at Atlantic State Job Lot for $5. ;D

Out4Trout

Do you ever have problems with the carbs on the auger freezing up?  I used to haul my auger similar to that in you pictures and had all sorts of issues with snow dust.

I'm just here to read what all the experts have to say.

JDK -

I carried my auger on the back of my snowmobile too, but always put an auger cover on it...see the Jiffy webpage.  I never had a problem with my Jiffy icing up.

Looks like some of the folks in Trout's group had their augers get some snow on them.

How about it Out4Trout?  Are you there?

Sorry, I guess I haven't checked in for a few days.  :-[

At the time of those pctures, we were traveling about 10 miles to the lakes we were fishing and didn't have much for problems. We had about five or six augers between us all, so no worries if one didn't run well, which would happen once in a while. We brought them in the camp for a while at night to let them "thaw out". We have put garbage bags over them also.

That's quite a rack, Hazzy.
Just be careful that the sled still fits on the trailer (under the cover if there is one).

was thinking if it's pinned in place  it could be removed for transport  and for me  the only real time I cover it  for transport is the moosehead trip  up here  isnt usually needed for short trips
