small wood stove ideas
« on: Mar 29, 2010, 01:32 PM »
i want to build a small stove for the boat and for a shanty. anyone have pics of something to burn small wood scraps, maybe 2x4 splits up to say 14 inches long. thinking something that loads from the top and can be mounted on a wall or on the roof post on my lobsterboat. could make from plate or pipe etc, just looking for a simple design or a pic to start from

I made a stove out of the internals of an old water heater. I have wanted to try to use water pressure tank similar to the one you would use in your home. We cut the middle out and welded the two ends together. We bought a kit at Ace Hardware to modify a 50 gal drum to a wood stove. It came with cast iron doors, collar/damper, and legs. It works perfectly for cooking you out of a 8X12 shanty. If you want anymore info on it just shoot me a pm. Good luck!
Thank God for Ice!

I've built quite a few small wood stoves out of 20lb propane tanks, a few old water heaters.  I remember seeing on the lincoln welder site they have welding projects and one of the projects is a small wood stove.

thats a nice stove. was talking to someone that made a few and am leaning to an airtight design to keep the sparks down, going to make it top loading and funnel the air intake down to the bottom from the top

We tried a top load on our original, but it was hard to get it air tight so it smoked a lot....

This is the one I have in my 4x6....might be what you are looking for...

that little one is probably all i need for heat. with the round one that top loads, did you put in a gasket on the top, and it still leaked. i have one similar to the one mainedukblaster posted for my canvas tent but it s too much stove for what i want to do with it. i do see that little one gets hot
