thanks for posting mainedog.  i'm still in the planning stage of the project.  my sled will definitly be a welded metal "traditional style" dog sled like jp's.  the overall layout is still on the drawing board.  i'm undetermined if i'm going to make a box of some kind or bolt a jet sled w/cover onto it for a snow free storage area.

the good news is i have about 8 months to complete the project.   ;D

i'll be sure to post a completed pic of "Project High Speed"

This thing has been a beast for me and is still in good shape.  I have 0 dollars in it, as I got all of it as scrap.  It holds tons of gear, can hold a rider on back, stays up on the snow pretty well. The biggest down fall was I had no ridgid hitch and it could be a hassell.  Also I would add a cover over my gear this year to keep out spray.  But for a cheap no cost rig it worked well for me but I'm upgrading to a otter

I used a dog sled for years an I'm glad I was young.  We renamed them drag sleds, they pack off and fill full of slush and snow and end up weighing twice their actual weight by the time you get to your spot.  The otter with the cover is the best I have ever used.

Build a Komatik sled. They are made for arctic expeditions. You tip that over and you have problems man.

Here is a good site for this stuff: http://www.snowsled.com/

I want to build a drag sled so I can have a place for the kids to ride and get all our gear out there. When you are bringing 5 people out there is a lot of stuff to haul.

Any steel or Aluminum runner, will pick up water and ice build up and You will be dragging a lot of extra weight. If you can poly is the way to go .

I fish with an Otter Sled. I have and still do run 40 to 50 MPH if I have to. They will take it and I dont worry about my stuff falling out with the Otter cover over the top. The only thing they dont like is hitting a tree on a cold (-20) morning. They will break.  ;D ;D ;D Other than the Otter I have yet to find anything that will out work these.  Also if you have to skim open water they float and you can keep right on skimming.  ;D ;D ;D Good luck in your search.

Im with the otter also... Last year we floated about 25 yards of water getting off the ice, and I was riding in the otter. And we also do about 25-30 across the lake. But use common sense you see a ridge or bump slower down a touch
Fishing is like playing at Carnegie Hall, when your good your good. But do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall? PRACTICE!
