2nd pike of my life
« on: Feb 11, 2010, 01:51 PM »
Hi all.  Haven't posted in awhile.  Haven't caught much worth posting - til now.  I'm just sorry it's a pike story.  It has a happy ending though  :).
Went to my favorite perch jerkin' spot Tuesday to play with the Marcum and wonder what I might be doing if I wasn't unemployed.  The bass were fierce but I only managed 5 white perch.  I set 3 traps as I went along in holes where I'd found the perch.  About 2 o'clock I had a flag, and what a flag!  Landed this cow after about 20 minutes.  20 lbs and 40" long!  I was using 12 lb mono leader, a red #4 octopus hook and a small shiner.  I hooked her in the outside of the lip.  2nd pike of my life and I'm happy to say I killed it - for the wall!  ;D
I didn't have the camera out on the ice so I had to settle for these shots at home.

This was a warm up for the pike derby on Sunday.
Good luck all!

Nice work!!!

Nice!!!  That's what we like to see.  Don't throw them back, get out there and kill some more.

I see you guys are still dreaming thinking you are going to stop the spread of pike by killing them all, time to accept the inevitable.....one day pike are going to be a valuable economic resource to this state.

What is the point to come onto another man's thread and make this comment?  The gentleman is obviously proud of his catch, period.  Any comments should be tied to this and this only.  If you want to debate the future of pike in Maine I suggest you start your own thread doing so......almost bet you'll get some players.  ;)

I don't like hijacked posts either, but it's funny how people can write in "glad you killed it" "kill em all" "glad you got it outta there" "go back and kill some more"  and that's ok.   I guess it depends on who's doing the hijacking.

Absolutely right.  And the first editorial comment, "hijack", etc. came earlier.  Double standards are a sign of the times.  It's the thing White House staffs are made of.  ::)

Thanks guys for seeing that, I never would have commented if the thread hadn't already been hijacked with someone else's personal opinion.  In no way would I want to detract from the original posters accomplishment.  If you want to take a big hen for mounting purposes than I'm ok with it,  if you kill one just because you think all pike should die than that is where I disagree.

By the way shortpole, that is definately a nice pike to be proud of, quite the accomplishment breaking the 20lb mark.
