New Toy for Fishing & Hunting
« on: Feb 11, 2010, 11:02 AM »
Greetings All,

Well, I've been investigating GPS' for the last 6 months and finally pulled the trigger this morning - a Delorme PN-40se.  I had just read an article on the 40's in the Northwoods Sporting Journal and the final straw was yesterday's thread regarding navionics SD cards that provide lake contour information.  Now I just need to get the navionics card, and most importantly learn how to use the GPS

I have been useing a pn 40 for a little while now.  I don't have the navionics card yet but it has been a great tool so far.  I love the satalite images right in the palm of my hand.

one word of advice DON'T PUT THE BATTERIES IN BACKWORDS. it will kill it.

I've got a PN-20 that I've had since they first came out. My experience has only scratched the surface of what these units can do, but I use the aerial photos quite a bit when deer hunting. It is a nice feature for not only avoiding obstacles such as swamps and brooks and such but also for seeing the landscape for a better understanding on deer movement and such. I love mine and it has served me well.

Just ordered the Navionics, which will arrive on Monday.  I'll have it for the "Quicky at Chicky"... and the remainder of the week at Moosehead.  ;D

I havea  PN-40, I have no complaints.  I had never used a gps before I bought it, and found it to be very simple (like me, I am a map and compass person).  In some valleys is western maine, I have had some trouble getting signal, but imagine all GPS units would struggle, as my cell wouldn't get reception either.

cell reception wouldn't  be related unless you're using a sattelite phone
