Bangor Area Bait Shops
« on: Jan 29, 2010, 06:02 PM »
So ive been to most of the bait shops around the bangor area, since i live in orono. Ive been to Old Town trading post.. not much to say there.. Then theres Van Rip Off's... i mean van ramonds... i dont dare to go there.. cant afford to walk through the door... I've been going to this place in bangor for a few years now.. and year after year they got it all, large, med, small, tiny red fin's... they got small and lg emeralds... they got suckers, smelts if it swims and you put it on a hook... they got it, real swimmers over there... the place is called   Norman Burns & Son  live bait shop... its located on birch st. inbetween Mt. Hope and Garland. I really recomend this place.. fair prices, good people, better bait.

Burns has been selling for a long time.  They always seem to have a good selection.  Only thing is it is not the easiest place to get in and out of.

I have been getting my bait there this year.  He is a nice guy and their prices are very good.  He traps his own which I also really like.

Been going there for years, and it is by far the best bait shop I have been to, and I have been at many all across the state. I absolutely reccomend this place to anybody who asks.

I live in Orono as well and am on the same page, this is the only place to go in the area that is fair.

There are some numbers listed on this thread:

I'm not sure if the information is current.  They live there, and the guy told me that I could pretty much go there at any time and get bait.

Usually if I went North, I would go to Crommetts.  But for staying close to Bangor or headed anywhere but North, they are a good bet.  The Old Town Trading Post was never open when I needed bait...

They are probably open today. I've never gone there early or late (or bad weather) and not seen them open and happy to sell you whatever you need. Nice people, good selection and reasonable prices!  It's definitely the Bangor bait shop to go to

I went to birch st twice last year and smelt were a 1$ more than old town and crommets and had dead smelt before I got to where I was going ??? Old town is closed on Sunday and tuesday which is kind of strange but they are open at 5 every other day for bait an if you need something from the store Dave is usually more than happy to let you in if there's not a line for bait plus they have oxygen. And no I don't put my bait in the truck with the heat on. If you are going north of Bangor I suggest crommets or old town

Old Town Trading Post

They are never open when you need bait.

Find Burn's Bait on Birch Street in Bangor.  http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=139061.0
