Stimulus Money for Our Outdoors!!
« on: Jan 27, 2010, 03:45 PM »
Just wondering why everytime our Government spends money we never see any assistance in our sport.  It's 99% funded by the users of the recreation, those who buy the license's,rental, camping, boat, and other fees.  Sure seems to me you would stimulate the economy by increasing our hatchery capacity and stocking more lakes.  This would create a trickle down affect to all the service industries, boat mfg, bait shops, motors, gear, camping,etc.. and of course the tourist industry as well. Would not be a temporary job to build a bridge but a lasting job to provide a continued income and a resource for all to enjoy.

Personal opinion:  You do have a good philosophy though with the trickle down effect, however, a majority voted for trickle up poverty so perhaps in three more years.

Factual:

Because the people who fish or participate in ourdoor recreation typically aren't big contributors to the politicians and lobbiest.  Money talks, if you are a bigger donar to their party and help line their pockets they will be more than happy to earmark funds to the outdoors, works for both parties.

I would also like to add that getting approval for the economic stimulus funds is fairly simple if you put together a plan and present it to a lobbiest along with payment to him.  If you have an idea for a business that creates jobs (doesn't have to be a lot) then they will more than likely approve the idea, however, you must prove you have working capital for them to finalize and release funds to you.  The funds are only supposed to be used on capital investments to grow business.

Two months ago before I lost my job when the company closed the doors, through the recommendation of current investors we submitted a plan, timeline, and data on jobs created to a lobbiest in Ohio to present to the governor in which they were well connected with.  We were approved for $5million in stimulus funds, but they required us to prove we had $1.5 million in cash (not borrowed) for working capital to prove we could surive without the funds.  The company was so far gone at that point they didn't have the cash to make it happen.  They make it difficult to get the funds, but there is a surplus of funds just sitting there in each state.

The funds are there, you just have to have money to get the money.

It seems like Outdoorsmen (hunting, fishing etc.) are self supporting.   I really dont know how the whole system works but overall I am happy with the way the money from fees etc. is used.  We have great fisheries and great hunting and they seem to be improving.

O boob A has never run anything....Not a company, not a business, nothing...unless you count a non profit orginazation.  You can't run this country when you have not even managed a McDonalds!!!!  Somehow he talked his way into the white house by getting the poor and a great number of african americans to vote that normally do not because he promised change and free healthcare.  The only change you will see from him is more taxes, more gifts to those that want to live off the system, bigger government, and a soaring debt that we will never pay off.  He is in so far over his head it is not even funny.  His speech tonight will be comical.  I hope the republican's yell LIAR about once every minute as he spews his socialist bulls*it.

i particularly like the way obamas crew has tried to black ball us all getting the insurance deal passed at a late nite session by buying nebraska and anyone else who could be baught to get this crap heap of a bill in.  but btw brett i agree 110% i have no problem whatso ever purchashing a fishing licsense the dnr does a great job redistributing funds by rebuilding boat ramps and countless othe projects maybe we should give the nations dnr officers a shot at this washington game.

99% of politicians are scum liars. Do you think that these people have anything in common with the average working American? Doesnt matter Dem or Rep, or Indep. They take our $, laugh, lie, cheat, steal, and just keep digging. They are ALL out of touch with the general public. These people are wealthy and connected. Organized crime. Dont argue over politics because they all s&*^!

We should have a windwall of improvements in the upcoming years, because Indiana sold more fishing licences this year than ever before.  Meaning in a bad economy, people have more time on there hands and want to get out of the house, so they head for the water or woods.  When more people are working, we will have less funds, but less pressure, even though the casual fisherman doesn't do much harm to the fish population.  Personally, Indiana is playing catch up to places like Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin who have already realized the importances of fishing tourism.  Lake Erie is loaded with fish, therefore it's part of most folks "Lake Heaven Chain O' Lakes" and through h**l and high water, they're going to make a trip to Erie once a year, increasing the number of $$ flowing into the state for hotels, gas stations, camping and bait store, etc.  Lake Michigan also draws alot of folks from other states in search of salmon and trout, but not Indiana, because who wants to stay/camp in Gary and Hammond?  Indiana has streamlined alot of things such as, online lic. purchases, and they seem to have alot of projects to make the hunting and fishing friendlier for us, but we still have a long way to go.  I think we need more conservation officers first and foremost, I run into "green pants" three times a year, and I fish 150 days if not more.  Just my opinion.

Think our DNR is doing a good job with what they have but more funds would sure help them. Acquire access to more lakes even the old generating station on Lake Michigan would be nice. Lake Michigan waterfront that we could use to gain access to the lake. I agree we are so far behind the other Midwestern States in tourism dollars and that sure would help with our unemployment to start acquiring properties and improving our fishing. It use to be easy to go out and fill a 5 gal pail of smelt during the run....now their are Casino Boats parked in all the prime spots. A dollar spent on improving our resources helps the entire community, while not spending it on nuts at Acorn.

I like the idea of more tourism money in Indiana.  It seams like for the last few years people have been coming here to fish for Musky.  It won't be long before there in every lake around.  Hopefully we can keep a balance with the different species.  When non native fish are introduced things don't alway turn out as planned.
