What kind of Ice cleats do you use?
« on: Jan 25, 2010, 09:41 PM »
Finally found the replacement hose for my Ice cleats.Had to get them direct from vendor. No dealer close to me. Guys is shipping them and billing me later. 8) I have two pair of Artic Spurs Model KAS20 .Love these.Really bite into the ice. Can"t Waite to get them under my feet again. Bought a cheep pair that all the steel studs fell off. Now all I have is two round rubber bands. Out $14.95+tax. :%$#!:Replacement hoses and shipping will be less then that. Now I will have two good pair. Thanks to the internet.

I bought some YakTrax Pros this year and they work really well.  You don't even realize you're wearing them.  I would recommend them to everyone!

Two things work really good: #1 get some zip scews (hex sheet metal screws) I use #10 or #12 x 1/2" and screw them into the bottom of my boots and when you get enough snow for safe walking you just take them out. #2 yaktrax are the best ones you can buy IMO

I'm getting a pair of the YakTrax today I think.  I fell on my butt twice last weekend within 5 seconds.  You know, you fall and hurry up and try to get up hoping nobody seen ya!  BAM,  on my butt again.  Damn Mr.Buddy heater warmed up my boots so warm boots on slick ice doesn't work well.

Completely understand and when I get to the walleye spot I take them off but let me tell you, after suffering a massive concussion trying to help a friend land a big fish.....I could care less how much noise I make getting to the spot.

I use the HT cleats.  Very cheap, I believe they were $9, only thing the bait shop had left when I got them.  Just stretch them on over the boots.  I figured they wouldn't last long but they are three years old and the rubber hasn't broke yet.

I haven't fallen yet.

A lot of people put the screws in their boots, but what happens after the first time you try to sneak in the house real quick to grab something out of the kitchen.  The screws sure would do some damage to the tiles or hardwoods.

My experience with the HT cleats is what made me stud my boots. I kept getting ice build up between the metal and I would constantly have to clean it off. Tried the Arctic Spurs and didn't like the feeling in the arch of my foot. I don't think the screws are any louder than the Spurs. Walking side by side with my Dad last week, you couldn't tell who was making more noise. Besides, I don't walk around when I'm actually fishing. ;) The screws are the best I've tried so far. It's a very natural feeling, just with lots of grip. I don't walk flat footed, I need the grip on the heel and toe, not in the arch of my foot. I don't wear them in the house either ;)

I just bought the ht srap on screw type cleats.Tried them out last week end. They work quite well.
The only negative I have with these is the adjustable velcro sraps are too long, and the velcro is not all the way on the straps. So when you tighten up the straps there isn't enuogh velcro to relly secure the straps.
they will get some added velcro and be just fine.
