My pike tip up rig
« on: Jan 23, 2010, 08:59 PM »
This is my tipup pike set up... use it %90 of the time... The bait shown is a dead ballyhou from florida, they are 1 of my favs but I also use smelt, herring and perch... all dead and nothing goes down the hole once done... most baits r re-used and the best thing.... false alrams are basically non-existint... I hooked this one a little bad but I usually get the bait once in the water facing upwards... looks like a baitfish feeding.... not %100 hammer handle proof but tend to get bigger fish... and trust me the hook to catch to racial is very very high..,. lastly, this bait is used so it is a little beat up

HOLY HOOK!!!   I've only seen hooks like that in the movie " SAW "
What is that hook?  never seen anything like it
I call them J-hooks.... I have also heard them called norwegion pike hooks....The size in the pick they no longer make but MUSTAD does make one size smaller... almost as big and still works good

Ahh! The old swedish hook. 'haven't seen any in a long time. I thought I had 'dem all.

Just to add -- sometimes finishing nails were inserted in the bait to level it. Also, the hook was inserted in the anus and pushed forward and twisted to come out behind the head like yours. I like your method- in the top back. No side to side balance issue caused by the hook shank being under and beside the bait.

Also, ' is a quick strike and hang on rig.

That hook looks like something the Grim Reaper carries around.  Either way sweet rig, I bet the unique minnow helps.
