Do I have to pick up my traps for a burger?
« on: Jan 15, 2010, 06:25 PM »
I don't know if this a question of law or ettiquite. Tomorrow at the derby, if i go to the town landing to weigh in a fish or to buy a burger for lunch. Do I have to pick up my traps? What's the rule of thumb?

Yes - If you can't see them, then you're available for a ticket.

There is no rule of thumb.

Supervision of lines. All lines must be under the immediate supervision of the person who set them

Thanks everyone. Fishon,Great idea! So does that mean a cusk is less of a fish?
I believe you only have to check your traps once an hour at night when fishing for them.

My dad and grandfather were fishing out of an ice shack like 20 years ago, a warden knocked on the door and asked to see them. They had 8 traps out plus the two of them were jigging so it's perfectly legal. My grandfather dropped his jigging rod and walked out side with my dad and closed the door. The warden proceeded to open his summons book and write a ticket for unattended lines. My dads said that being in a shack was legal even if they had traps out. The warden busted my grandfather for leaving his jig in the water and closing the door. I couldn't make this up if I wanted too. Be VERY careful.

I'm surprised there is no specific rule or distance. In Ontario I believe you can't be more then 50 yards away from your line.
