Stone/Laporte 1/04/10
« on: Jan 04, 2010, 11:39 AM »
Went out to check Stone out this morning. 10yds out drilled and found 3-4"(5fow) Went another 10yds out and 3-4". (8fow)Finally another 10yds out and 1.5"(12fow) two turns on the auger, YIKES!  Theres 8-15" of snow on the lake depending on where youre at. Geese are on the north end and also have a little pool opened up on the East/middle end. This ice is shot with all that snow. Also, if you dont have 4x4 dont even try to go into public boat launch area. Not sure if or when this lake will be safe.

hopefully the weight of the snow will push the ice down and let water on top to soak into the snow and compress it.  With night time temps in the low teens to single digits this week it should make alot of snow ice and then build on the real ice underneath.  With that much snow, I think I wuold just find another lake to fish.

Honestly I couldnt believe the ice was that thin but like you said all that snow. I just had to go check the ice out. Wanted to try for the perch. Oh well back to the gills. I know where theres safe ice. Atleast I made it out of there dry.

For what it's worth.
Fished last weekend on Pine. most ice was arround 6" . Didn't go to Stone they had a tourney with arround 50 or so from what I could tell spread out allover. Only pulled 2 perch from pine. Snowmobiler's were running allover Pine.

Hope this helps

Fished Stone on Monday the 18th.  Ice was ok, but not great.  Had like three different layers of ice for a total of 7 to 9 inches, with the bottom three to four inches being clear solid ice.  We caught two perch, and one nice gill.  No flags.  >:(

There was a derby the Saturday before, and by the amount of foot tracks and holes, they were not afraid to go anywhere on the lake.
