hey guys, bought a marcum near the end of the season used last year, works great, but not clarity, I have to have the gain at 8 to see the bottom at 30-040 feet, with fine water clarity. Maybe I'm not getting enough watts? Also will not take a charge. Of course I've thought about replacing the battery, tried another one, but not sure that is it. Has this happened to anybody?

low battery power can make flashers run like crap i would first get a new battery for it and go from there. If you are not getting a full charge you could use anew one anyway.

Do you have a friend with a good battery that you could borrow to test the unit first?  If it is something other than the battery, you may want to look at how much you are going to have to sink into it to get it repaired plus buy a battery.

Run it off your boat battery(s) to check like an open water unit, 12V DC

I had my charger burn out last year which made me think my battery was bad. My flasher acted the same way and was fuzzy and required a really high gain to see anything (the battery was just not charged). I ended up buying a new battery before I realized the charger was the problem, but at least I have a back up now.

Had my cordless drills charger go bad awhile back, luckily tested it first, you may be right

never know what the previous owner sold it for, could have been the transducer was on the blink too........they are all fairly fragile and a decent hit on the ice could cause it to crack internally. it will work, but acts funny, and will usually give false readings often. I would borrow a Battery and if you can a transducer to rule out both.......
